LA Lakers superstar LeBron James delivered another impressive all-around performance on Monday night against the New York Knicks, recording his second triple-double of the season (25 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists). However, his efforts were overshadowed by a 114-109 home loss, marking a troubling 0-2 record for the Lakers when James notches a triple-double this season.
Despite the losing record, James continues to etch his name in the history books. The soon-to-be 39-year-old is the only player ever to record a triple-double in his 21st season, adding to his already remarkable longevity. He also climbed the all-time triple-double leaderboard with his 109th, currently sitting at fifth place.
Beyond the individual accolades, James' performance averages remain impressive: 25.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and efficient shooting. Yet, the Lakers' inconsistent play raises concerns. Monday's loss was their third in four games since the NBA In-Season Tournament win, and James couldn't help but question the team's energy.
"I feel like our energy was up and down throughout the course of the game," James admitted. "We've been feeling it... Even through that, we still competed and gave ourselves a chance, but it's a tough one for us."
While James led the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds, the Knicks were powered by Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle's combined 56-point performance. Anthony Davis, with his 32 points and 14 rebounds, was the lone bright spot for the Lakers' offense.
LA will need to find a solution for their energy lapses and inconsistent play as they face the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. The Knicks, on the other hand, look to capitalize on their momentum with a matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.
