The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Indiana Pacers 128-119 on Thursday night, with Giannis Antetokounmpo setting a new team record with 58 points.

Antetokounmpo broke the record of 57 points set by Michael Redd in a 113-111 loss to the Utah Jazz in 2006. Antetokounmpo's previous career high was 55 points in a 123-113 win over Washington in January 2023. he hit 54 on Nov. 9 at Indiana.

"He's an unstoppable player. You can't defend him one-on-one," Bucks coach Adrian Griffin said. "His talent. His ability. His will. He has an unbelievable will to win and he will do whatever it takes to win. I was coaching the game and one of the coaches told me, 'Yeah, Giannis has 50 points. I had no idea.' But wow, what a great performance."

Antetokounmpo shot 20-of-28 from the field, 24-of-32 from the free throw line and pulled down 14 rebounds.

He became the first player in NBA history to make at least 20 3-pointers and 20 free throws in a game and shoot at least 70 percent on each. It's also the most points scored in a game by any player in NBA history on fewer than 30 attempts.

"It's a great feeling. It feels great to be able to do that," Antetokounmpo said. "I try to play basketball for the right reasons as much as possible. I play basketball hard to win games, I play basketball hard to help my teammates become great players, but at the end of the day, it's a great feeling to be able to break this record in front of the fans in this stadium, too."

After the game, there was an incident in the hallway near Indiana's locker room over the ownership of the game ball.

"It's unfortunate what happened after the game," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "There was a misunderstanding over the game ball. It was Oscar Tshiebwe's first time scoring in an official NBA game, so we always get the game ball. We didn't consider Giannis' franchise record, so we grabbed the ball.

"A few minutes later, a couple of their players showed up in our hallway and there was a big scuffle, I don't know what to call it - a brawl, melee or something. I don't think there was any fisticuffs, but my GM was elbowed in the ribs by one of their players.

There was also a brief heated confrontation between several players during the game.

With 10:10 left in the game, Antetokounmpo was tackled by Aaron Nesmith on an underneath run, sparking a confrontation. Nesmith was flagged for a 1. Nesmith and the Bucks' Bobby Portis were called for technical fouls.

Antetokounmpo made both free throws and Khris Middleton hit a jumper on the next possession to give the Bucks a 108-96 lead. Portis was called for his second technical foul and ejected with 9:13 left in the game, giving him 19 points.

Antetokounmpo scored seven straight points for the Bucks to push the lead to 118-100 with 6:26 to play.

Damian Lillard contributed 21 points for the Bucks. Lillard hit his second 3-pointer with 8:06 left in the third quarter for his 2,451st career 3-pointer, passing Kyle Korver for fifth place in NBA history.
